Job Description Summary

A leader within the SME Management team, responsible for all aspects of the SME Credit Products and Loan Book operations, including standard credit, complex, SBA and specialized lending. Responsible for overall planning, directing, and operational performance of the multi-site Business Credit Solutions Custom Credit loan underwriting and approval, portfolio management functions, portfolio quality, personnel oversight, MIS, training and budgeting. Responsible for ensuring the performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability of the group's operations as well as compliance with all bank procedures and risk appetite, and regulatory requirements. Subject to risk management and SME executive management approval, lending authority is set in accordance with Designated Lending Authority (DLA) Guidelines (up to $65MM).Represents the Bank as appropriate in its relationships with major customers, suppliers, competitors, government agencies and regulators, professional organizations, and others. Responsible for regularly interacting with Executive Management and/or Board committees and shares division profit and loss responsibility. Reports directly to the Head of the Small & Medium Enterprises group.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads diverse, multi-site underwriting and portfolio management teams in origination and structuring of “complex” credit proposals that meet the needs of Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) customers/prospects while conforming to the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements. Ensures a high standard of credit quality through oversight, development of vertical expertise and oversight of credit approvals.

  • Manages and executes portfolio management strategies that are aligned with the risk appetite limits for the SME loan book portfolio.

  • Ensures compliance with all loan policies and procedures and regulatory requirements and responsible for the portfolio performance and trends. Regularly reviews relevant policies and procedures and recommends changes to reflect any internal or market condition changes.

  • Oversees all monitoring of credit relationships for covenant compliacne, collareral monitoring and credit deterioration through indirect “matrix” oversight of Business Credit Management teams as well as through direct oversight of all SME credit talent. Ensure timely renewal and/or review of the portfoio and ensure that appropriate actions are taken on covenant violations, downgrades, or modification.

  • Works closely with Credit and Counterparty Risk (C&CR) team to ensure appropriate execution of Four-Eyes policies, including chairing Deal Review Committee, participation in the bank’s Credit Committee, and clear visibility to portfolio trends. Provides early warning forpotential negative trends. May present trends, policy changes, effectiveness etc to Executive or Board Level risk committees.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the teams’ budget, forecasting changes, and ensuring the integrity of the Genreral Ledger accounts.

  • Responsible, directly or indirectly, for employee management including selection, resource allocation, and performance management.

  • Ensuring adequate and appropriate training of teams as well as developmental plans. As needed, develop appropriate, related training for production teams, including BBC and Pac Rim teams.

Other Job Duties

  • Oversee all aspects of Human Resources for the Group including compensation, variable pay plans, recruitment, diversity and turnover.

  • Perform due diligence on potential acquisition portfolios as requested and assist with merger and acquisition activities as needed.

  • Ensure that customers receive prompt, courteous and accurate responses, encouraging inter-departmental coorperation.

  • Oversees special projects that may be requested by the Group Head or C&CR.

  • Build and implement industry leading change initiatives around the end to end credit process for SME.

  • SME and Bank wide advocate for cultural change and leading with heart.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration or Operations Management or related experience

Work Experience

  • E1 - 15 yrs Requires advanced business knowledge, general management and leadership capability to lead business or multiple functional teams. Typically has broader practical experience across multiple professional disciplines within the organization, combining theory, past practical experience and the organization’s business practices. Requires technical and operational capability to define and/or oversee program design in broad area of responsibility. Applies extensive business and industry expertise and provides organizational thought leadership.Requires 15 years minimum prior relevant credit experience a major commercial bank or financial services industry.

Skills

  • Advanced commercial credit knowledge and experience.

  • Strategic thinker with SME and CBG credit as well as business strategies
