Position Summary

Responsible for planning, directing and managing activities of the Enterprise Project Management Office, to:

  • Ensure the successful completion of enterprise wide projects and initiatives and

  • Provide ongoing management consulting expertise on strategic initiatives as required throughout the organization.

As a key member of the BOW Project Management Office Center of Excellence team, the Senior Portfolio Manager manages all activities related to an assigned portfolio consisting of sub portfolios, programs and projects to deliver on the organizations goals and objectives.

In this regard, the Senior Portfolio Managers uses sub portfolios, programs and projects to support organizational change, support improvements in productivity and efficiency, focuses on strategic thinking to ensure the work under way continues to support strategic goals and objectives, and develops business cases for each program and project. The Sr. Portfolio Manager monitors the work effort in light of organizational strategy; and makes decisions or recommendations as to whether or not to continue specific work items, with the objective of a continual stream of programs and projects that support organizational goals in the pipeline at all times.

To ensure Portfolio Management value, it is necessary for the Senior Portfolio Manager to build relationships with each key stakeholder to ensure his or her concerns are heard and addressed in a timely way. The Senior Portfolio Manager will provide coaching and mentoring to their Portfolio Managers, Program Managers, Project Managers and project team members to adherence to standards, best practices and internal controls. The successful candidate will be able to work under minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages and administers project activities. Plans, manages, and oversees administration and execution of enterprise-wide project implementations to ensure projects realize anticipated benefits.

  • Creates and supports the tools, processes, skills and behaviors required to manage change created by projects and programs

  • Provides in-house management consulting expertise for special projects as assigned by the Executive Management team.

  • Partners and collaborates with the heads of various functional disciplines (including IT, HR, Finance and Legal) to determine project requirements, create plans for execution, identify significant cross-functional dependencies, oversee execution performance and analyze results to determine if financial and other objectives are met.

  • Develop and maintain processes, project plans and schedules from initiation through delivery, including status reporting, team management, troubleshooting and problem resolution to ensure completion of assigned projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Works with other Senior Project/Portfolio/Business managers to coordinate resources and other interdependencies within and across projects/portfolios/businesses. Plan, manage and staff human resources in terms of projects. This includes keeping up with employees’ skills and capabilities as well as taking into account project timelines and budgets.

  • Effectively communicate with Executive Management and other stakeholders to ensure satisfaction with project management processes such as managing milestones, tasks, and issues

  • Works proactively to escalate and resolve critical issues. Bridges the gap between strategy and implementation, collaborates with business partners to define investment strategy and prioritize work

  • Coach and mentor project managers to ensure clarity/understanding of project scope, deliverables, schedule and budget; ability to hold the team accountable for providing deliverables on time and within budget while meeting the customers’ expectations

Other Job Duties

  • Lead special projects designed to improve Bank of the West’s capability and process for effectively integrating acquired companies which includes capturing lessons learned and best practices from both prior integration work and industry research.

  • Manages employees directly. Establishes performance goals, allocates resources, determines training and development and assesses annual performance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education or Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Business, Finance, IT, or Management

Required Experience

· Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project teams multiple job areas.

· Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.

· Requires 12-15 years minimum prior relevant experience.
