Job Description Summary

This exciting new role will primarily, but not exclusively, support the Mass Small Business strategic planning and program implementation. Provides decision-making research for the Head of Mass Small Business and Regional Manager's. Assist in implementing Group Management strategy and helps identify business line/division issues early and recommends solutions to Division or Group Head. Recommends and supports implementation of industry best practices.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports Division's operational efforts such as new business development, cross sales, project management, audits. Supports product development with industry trends, process forecasting and cost evaluation related to new product roll outs and product updates. Enhances communication throughout the division.

  • Provides business analytics; reviews/analyzes metrics; identifies future business trends and supports the Division with overall Strategy. Maintain a consistent distribution of reporting and notification to Senior Management and when needed BNPP, other parts of the Group and the Bank.

  • Liaises effectively with business units for achievement of related integrated goals as defined by management.

  • Identifies and refines business goals, and develops and implements jointly with Corporate Marketing projects and programs to achieve those goals.

  • Partners with executives in product and field management positions to incorporate business unit insights and objectives into program design, and to ensure organizational alignment around and support for program strategies and tactics.

  • Defines and executes creative strategies that reflect and reinforce the strategic direction of the Division while fulfilling tactical program objectives.

  • Makes decisions based upon financial and analytical insights. Develops pro-forma program budgets, and manages projects to budget and timelines. Reviews back-end results to assess project economics and define next steps.

  • Researches programs, capabilities and processes of best-in-class competitors, vendors and industry experts to identify best practices that will improve Division efficiency and effectiveness. Defines and deliver projects to introduce and institute those best practices.

  • P&L Alignment, Goal vs Actual Strategies

  • Budget Monitoring with Finance

  • MBR (monthly business review) reporting and organization

  • Market Based Goals Setting, and monitoring

  • Small Business Production Capacity Management

  • CRM Sales Integration and performance management

  • Call Center Service to Sales Design and Execution

  • Cost to Serve optimization alignment with enterprise efforts

  • Product SBEL (design, monitoring and analytics)

Other Job Duties

  • Directs development of work plans, schedules, resource plans, and status reports. Provides overall leadership to project teams comprised of staff from various departments within the Bank and Vendors affected by a project. May conduct vendor negotiations and develop contract proposals.

  • Assists Division Managers with central issues, policies and procedures, white papers, portfolio reports, etc. When required, works jointly with other Division Managers on selected specific projects.

  • Participates in special projects for Division as directed by Division Head, as needed by any other group/department of the Bank

Required Experience

  • Requires strong understanding of customer and LOB profitability with strong management and leadership skills to influence change to improve business performance.

  • Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.

  • Organize and utilizing internal and external information to identify opportunities in market opportunity, portfolio analysis, banker performance optimization to support growth.

  • Develops and uses appropriate analytic tools to support research that can be periodic, ad hoc and/or hypothetical.

  • Creates ROI analysis for optimization strategies the drive the production teams to optimal performance

  • Develop meaningful and useful features in presenting real time contextual information to bankers, support staff and management, via CRM platforms, reporting, presentations and consultative review documents.

  • Consult with appropriate levels of management to identify and recommend actions that will improve their business performance.

  • Seek and acquire external information that will help guide banker performance, including prospecting, competitive intelligence and public perception of Bank of the West.

  • Significant experience working with large unstructured data.

  • Working knowledge of Operations Research optimization skills

  • Requires highest knowledge and mastery of multiple job areas typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.

  • Viewed as the leading expert and/or resource within the field by peers within and outside the organization.

  • Requires 10-12 years minimum prior relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • MBA Preferred with STEM undergraduate experience preferred.

  • Extensive project management and hands on technical experience building datamart, multidimensional data cubes and models spanning multiple platforms and sources. Command of SQL based environments (e.g. SAS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle PL SQL, Teradata, etc.)

  • Strong geographic mapping analytic experience, utilizing various GIS software (e.g. ArcView, Mapquest, etc.). Ability to integrate market and internal information.


  • Excellent knowledge and ability to synthesize data into meaningful presentations.

  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).

  • Good knowledge of Bank's departments & functions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to perform with complete autonomy.

  • Good organizational skills, sales and marketing knowledge.
